Another building in the city centre is being redeveloped by O’Hare McGovern.
The Victorian Athletic Stores building on Queen Street is being transformed into a new student development by Welsh firm Watkin Jones and local firm Lacuna Developments. This is the same team that was behind the John Bell Building.
The Athletic Stores scheme will involve retaining the building's facade while demolishing and rebuilding behind it.
The refurbished building will contain 317 bedrooms and the usual communal areas. It is hard to believe that Belfast can sustain the number of student beds being built at present however the demand seems to be ever growing. Maybe this is to do with the fact that Belfast was recently named as the world’s best region for tourism.
